More than two weeks after the tragic deaths of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community continue to honor the pair.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, stated he finally felt ready to share openly about his personal sorrow.
"Enough time has gone by that I can at last put my grief into words," posted Elwes, saying that his introductory moment with Reiner created an instant bond. "When we commenced spending more time together I realized this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor uploaded never-before-seen clips from the production, commenting that he could not remember "one day without mirth".
"The film is about affection, allegiance and giving. Principles that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes expressed.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, noting: "To say that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still pangs every time I think of you." He concluded with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Colleague and Comrade
In a separate piece, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the main character.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked beautifully with the cast, and he comprehended the human predicament of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Sealed
Recently, a Los Angeles court official decided to bar the publication of the Reiners' autopsy reports, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A legal directive put a restriction on the files to limit the public release of "any investigative information, documents, files or images" connected to the ongoing investigation.
The relevant authority had previously confirmed their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a public database noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the killings, public figures shared varying responses.
Former President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making divisive statements that were met with immediate backlash by numerous individuals.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his criticism to the detractors recently. Talking on his podcast, Rogan characterized the remarks as "disturbing" and remarked they demonstrated a concerning absence of compassion.
Rogan finished by remarking that an associate ought to have intervened when the impulse to weigh in on the passing was made.
